Nice story. One cell animal, complex cell animals. Nothing between. Proof of this kind of evaluation is false. No 2 cells. No 3 cells. No such thing. Try again. Love the way this guy reads and tells a story.

For a a guy (me) who is in a constant state of anxiety over being 59, and knowing that the end is closer than the beginning, really resonated with me. At the beginning when he starts talking, he provides a small diatribe on the pros and cons of being 60, and the attendant fear, depression and anxiety associated with getting old. He philosophically articulates the hope's and fears of being 60. I have never heard anyone articulate someone's quasi-tormented state of mind at getting older, expressed in a kind, sensitive and compassionate way, like he understands the profound emotional duress that is associated with getting older.

Let us all recollect that Fitzgerald was an elitist, wife deserter and a drunkard. From what I can tell from this story, he was also a diabolisist. The deranged kid chose to do evil. Do yourself a favour and see what true Catholicism can do, see St Jon Bosco and the Salesian method. One more thing, now that the world has rejected God and His church, what is becoming of it? Is it the free utopia it dreamed to become or is it spiralling out of control?
